Deputy governor arrested in Syrdarya, assistant governor in Navoi (video)

A deputy governor in the Syrdarya region and an assistant governor in the Navoi region have been arrested, the State Security Service reported.

According to the report, the deputy governor of Khavos district in the Syrdarya region and a specialist from the district department of the regional Department of Investments, Industry and Trade conspired to obtain illegal financial gain.

They allegedly received $10,000 from the head of a farm in June of this year in exchange for including a livestock farm covering 452 hectares in the rice cultivation allocation for next year, confirming the fulfillment of the export plan, ignoring unauthorized rice cultivation, and protecting the farmer during an inspection conducted by the State Security Service into the activities of farms in the district.

Later, the deputy governor demanded an additional $20,000, threatening to confiscate the land and initiate criminal proceedings against the farm manager. During a special operation, the deputy governor received $10,000 of the requested amount through his colleague, a specialist, and their illegal activities were halted.

A criminal case has been initiated against the deputy governor and the specialist under Article 165, Part 3, Subparagraph “a” of the Criminal Code, and a preventive measure in the form of arrest has been applied.

In a separate case in the Navoi region, an assistant governor responsible for entrepreneurship development, employment, and poverty reduction at one of the mahalla citizens’ assemblies in the Karmana district was detained with material evidence while illegally receiving 40 million soums.

It was revealed that the assistant governor, abusing his official position, gained the trust of an individual and demanded 100 million soums in exchange for registering a 12 sq. m. plot of land on the M-37 highway, which had been leased to another citizen in 2024, in that person’s name.

A criminal case has now been opened against the assistant governor, and an investigation is underway.

It is worth noting that earlier in the Surkhandarya region, an assistant governor, an engineer, and an agricultural official were detained for taking bribes.
