On April 13, four citizens of Uzbekistan were found dead in an apartment building on Gagarin Street in Kaliningrad, Russia. The incident was reported by the local outlet “Kaskad.”
According to investigators, no signs of violence were found at the scene. The four men had been living in apartment number 5 of building 22 on Gagarin Street for less than a month. They had recently arrived in Kaliningrad from Uzbekistan in search of employment.
After the bodies were removed, authorities sealed the apartment. Neighbors were interviewed as part of the investigation. They noted that the men rarely stayed at home and were often at work.
“They were good people. Every day they would leave around 8:30 in the morning and return around 9:00 in the evening. I would only hear the door closing—they were very quiet,” said a neighbor named Lyudmila.
Preliminary reports suggest that the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. The regional Investigative Committee stated that the gas equipment in the rented apartment had not been properly maintained.
“The regional prosecutor’s office is also overseeing the investigation. The landlord of the apartment may be held responsible. The charges under which the case is being investigated carry a maximum prison sentence of several years,” said Natalia Gatsko, senior assistant to the head of the Investigative Committee for the Kaliningrad region.
It is worth recalling that in November 2024, the body of a 31-year-old Uzbek woman was found in a bag in the basement of a building in St. Petersburg. She had traveled there for work with her 24-year-old friend earlier that month.
