President celebrates marriage of record-breaking paralympian Asila Mirzayorova (video)

On February 13, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev personally congratulated Paralympic champion Asila Mirzayorova on her recent marriage during a videoconference on advancing the Olympic and Paralympic movement, expanding mass sports, and promoting physical activity among the population.

“I am very happy to see my daughter Asila. My daughter, be happy. I recently heard about your wedding and sent my representative. I wish you both happiness and prosperity. You are one of my most reliable, courageous, and brave daughters. I tell everyone, ‘I have a heroic daughter.’ I also said to you, ‘My daughter, my heroic daughter.’ May God bless you. May we all see your happiness and perfection. My daughter, I believe that you will succeed in your work and bring Uzbekistan many, many, many medals in the future,” said the President.

In response, Mirzayorova expressed her gratitude and shared her determination to prepare even more intensively for the upcoming Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, promising to turn one gold medal into two.

During the conversation, it was also revealed that Mirzayorova’s husband is involved in sports and works as a coach.

"I was so happy to see your husband become a coach. You have found your happiness and married your coach; you have a precious family. I hope that the marriage of these two will be strong, and a new family and new heroes of New Uzbekistan will emerge," Mirziyoyev remarked.

Born in 1999 in the city of Karshi, Asila Mirzayorova is a silver medalist of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and a two-time world champion in para-athletics. She made history at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, setting a new long jump record of 5.22 meters and breaking a Paralympic record that had stood for nearly three decades. Following her victory, President Mirziyoyev personally congratulated her by phone.

In October 2023, Mirzayorova took on a new role as a special representative for the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities at the National Agency for Social Protection.
