Mahalla chairman detained while allegedly receiving $20,000 bribe in Parkent

The chairman of a mahalla citizens’ assembly in Parkent district of Tashkent region and another person were detained while allegedly attempting to illegally sell state reserve land. The State Security Service reported this.
According to the report, the chairman and a person born in 1970 agreed to sell 10 sotiks of state reserve land to a buyer for $20,000. They allegedly said they would arrange the relevant land documents by giving $2,000-3,000 to an engineer at the district branch of the State Cadastre Chamber.
During an operation conducted by State Security Service officers in cooperation with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes and internal affairs bodies, the mahalla chairman, the cadastral engineer and the citizen born in 1970 were detained while receiving $17,000 and 37 million soums.
A criminal case has been opened against them, and investigative actions are underway.
Earlier, a deputy head of a tax inspection in Samarkand region was detained for allegedly attempting to settle a farmer’s debt in exchange for a bribe. A former deputy district governor was also detained for allegedly promising to use his former position to help an acquaintance get a job.
