Uzbek language to be taught at Oxford

At the world-renowned University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, Uzbek and Old Uzbek languages will now be taught. This was announced by Saida Mirziyoyeva, the eldest daughter of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan.

She noted that the Uzbek and Old Uzbek languages will be offered at Oxford’s Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. Mirziyoyeva also received an award from the university, which she described as recognition of her achievements in protecting and expanding the rights and opportunities of women in Uzbekistan under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s leadership.

In addition, Saida Mirziyoyeva, accompanied by her son Miromon Tursunov, visited the Bodleian Library, where rare books and manuscripts are preserved. These include Mirzo Ulugbek’s Ziji Koragoniy, Alisher Navoi’s Khamsa, Husayn Bayqarah’s Divoni Husayniy, miniatures from the Babur period, and many other valuable works.

It is worth noting that on October 9, Saida Mirziyoyeva met in Brussels with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas. She also held talks with the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Josef Sikela. On October 13, in London, she met with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Additionally, on October 14 in London, Mirziyoyeva met with Baroness Arielle Mallard de Rothschild, a member of the supervisory board of Rothschild & Co, Lucy Rigby, Economic Secretary to the UK Treasury, representatives of British businesses, and David Lammy, Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Justice of the United Kingdom.
