The leader of the “Olga Karakalpakstan” party, who is accused of the Nukus events, is arrested

Spokesman of the Supreme Court Aziz Obidov announced today, 10th May, that the open trial of the criminal case related to the Nukus incident has concluded in the Criminal Trial Panel of the Court of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.  The verdict has been delivered.

According to the reports, Amanbay Sagidullayev, the leader of the "Olga Karakalpakstan" party, has been sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment. Niyetbay Urazbayev, the chairman of the Karakalpak ethnic-cultural association "Allayar Yoli" from the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, received a 12- year prison sentence.  
Due to the defendants' absence from the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, A. Sagidullayev and N. Urazbayev did not participate in the trial as per Article 410 of the Criminal Procedure Code.  Efforts to bring the to court were unsuccessful.

As stated in the court's verdict, A. Sagidullayev was found guilty of the following offenses: Part 3 of Article 158 (Assault on the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan), Part 1 and Part 4 of Article 159 (Assault on the Constitutional System of the Republic of Uzbekistan) of the Criminal Code, Part 3 of Article 244 (public disorder), and Clauses "a" and "g" of Part 3 of Article 244-1 (preparation, storage, distribution, or display of materials that threaten public safety and public order).

Consequently, he received a prison term of 18 years, with 2 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a disciplinary colony, in accordance with Article 59 of the Criminal Code, which governs punishment for multiple crimes.

N. Urazbayev was found guilty of the offenses under Part 4 of Article 159, Part 3 of Article 244, and Clauses "a" and "g" of Part 3 of Article 244-1 of the Criminal Code.  In accordance with Part 3 of the relevant article, he was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment in a general order penal colony.

Furthermore, Article 28, Clause "a" of Part 3 of Article 104 of the Criminal Code (as these actions are covered by Part 3 of Article 244 of the Criminal Code) was excluded from the defendants' charges.

The court verdict also includes the decision to block internet pages and channels owned by A. Sagidullayev.

The dissatisfied parties have the right to file complaints with the appellate instance of the Supreme Court on Criminal Cases, following the procedures and deadlines specified in the procedural legislation through the court of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.  The prosecutor also has the right to lodge a protest.

We would like to remind you that on 17th March this year, the trial of the criminal case involving 39 defendants accused of instigating public disturbances in the city of Nukus on 1-2 July 2022, concluded in the building of the Bukhara Regional Court, and the verdict was delivered.
