Today, April 24, at the Congress Center of the Silk Road Samarkand complex, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held negotiations in a narrow circle and with the participation of official delegations. The announcement was made by the Presidential Press Service.
At the start of the meeting, Berdimuhamedov conveyed greetings and best wishes from Turkmenistan’s President, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Mirziyoyev.

The leaders discussed ways to enhance friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the steady development of cooperation across multiple sectors, including political, parliamentary, trade-economic, transport-communication, and cultural-humanitarian ties.

"Effective dialogue takes place at all levels, with regular meetings of intergovernmental commissions, business councils, regional forums, cultural events, and trade exhibitions. Last year, bilateral trade reached $1.1 billion, with trading houses established in both capitals and increasing freight transport volumes. Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan aim to raise trade volume to $2 billion soon," the report states.

Both nations continue to develop mutually beneficial partnerships in energy, transport, agriculture, and water resource management. The countries are jointly working to establish the “Shovot-Toshovuz” cross-border trade zone. Regional dialogues are actively expanding, alongside large-scale cultural exchange programs.
This year, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan agreed to hold the third Regional Forum in Khiva and celebrate Turkmenistan Culture Days in Uzbekistan.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional cooperation, including preparations for upcoming "Central Asia Plus" summits and the Seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders, scheduled to take place in Tashkent.
Mirziyoyev praised Turkmenistan’s initiative at the United Nations General Assembly, which designated 2024 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, highlighting the significance of an upcoming forum in Ashgabat in December and other international events.

During the meeting, Mirziyoyev presented Berdimuhamedov with an Uzbek-language edition of his book, "Tafakkur Gavhari".

On October 11, 2023, following the international forum in Ashgabat, which marked the 300th anniversary of Turkmen poet and philosopher Makhtumquli Fragi, Mirziyoyev gifted Berdimuhamedov a collection of Makhtumquli’s works translated into Uzbek.
