Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has invited Uzbek families to move to Belarus to work and live, as the country is facing a labor shortage.

“There was a lot of talk about Vitebsk region. Uzbekistan lacks water. It would also be good if there were more land. We in Belarus have all of this. Sometimes we lack labor. We would like Uzbek families to come to Belarus, settle here, receive medical care if necessary, get education and develop. We need this very much so that Belarusian lands do not remain empty,” he said.

Lukashenko emphasized that cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan should not be limited only to the economic sphere, and that it is important to develop interregional ties and implement joint projects in scientific, technical, social, cultural and humanitarian areas.

The Belarusian leader also stressed that the two countries should make more active use of existing opportunities.

“Let us work together. Belarusians have a very good attitude toward Uzbeks, just as citizens of Uzbekistan have a good attitude toward Belarusians. There is the will and support of the presidents. We need to act quickly. If we are late, someone else will come,” he added.

Lukashenko also highlighted the important role of women in Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation. According to him, a women’s business forum has been established between the two countries, and Belarus will continue to support this initiative. He also particularly noted the active role of Uzbekistan’s First Lady Ziroat Mirziyoyeva.

It is worth noting that on July 9 this year, following talks, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a declaration on establishing strategic partnership relations.
