WWII veterans in Uzbekistan to receive 30 million soums each

Participants of World War II in Uzbekistan will receive a one-time payment of 30 million soums this year. The announcement was made on April 16 during a briefing to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who also serves as Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, on issues related to social support for military personnel, improvements in the training system for reserve officers, and preparations for May 9 — the Day of Remembrance and Honor.

According to the report, the annual observance of May 9 as a nationwide holiday reflects Uzbekistan’s commitment to preserving peace, strengthening independence, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom, and providing care and support to war and labor veterans.

This year, it has been proposed to grant each World War II participant and disabled veteran a one-time payment of 30 million soums in connection with the holiday.

The program also includes plans to honor war veterans, home front workers, the elderly, and mentors, as well as to improve the living conditions of elderly and low-income veterans and organize commemorative events. The memory of those who died in the line of duty during the years of independence will also be honored, and their families will receive material and moral support.

“Spiritual and patriotic events aimed at promoting the bravery and courage of military personnel who sacrificed their lives for the peace of our homeland and the well-being of our people will be held. Cultural and educational events, intergenerational meetings, creative evenings, competitions, and mass sports events will be organized across the country under the slogan ‘Duty, Courage, and Perseverance,’” the statement said.

It is worth noting that in 2025, each World War II participant and disabled veteran living in Uzbekistan received a one-time payment of $10,000, while in 2024 the amount stood at 20 million soums.
