Power grid engineers detained with bribes in Fergana and Jizzakh

An engineer of an electricity supply enterprise was detained while allegedly receiving a bribe of 100 million soums in Fergana region, while another engineer was caught receiving 40 million soums in Jizzakh region. The State Security Service reported this.

It was noted that an engineer of the Fergana district electricity supply enterprise used his official position to demand 100 million soums from a citizen in exchange for connecting a workshop producing construction materials to the power grid, installing and connecting an electricity meter, and arranging permit documents through his official acquaintances. During an operation conducted jointly by officers of the Fergana Regional Department of the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, the previously convicted engineer was detained with physical evidence while receiving the requested money.

In another case, an engineer of the Sharof Rashidov district electricity supply enterprise in Jizzakh region also used his official position and demanded 50 million soums in exchange for eliminating a local farm’s existing electricity debt of 122 million soums through his official acquaintances. He had previously received 10 million soums. During an operation conducted jointly by officers of the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, he was detained while receiving the remaining 40 million soums.

Criminal cases have been opened against the engineers in both cases, and investigative actions are underway.

Earlier, it was reported that two engineers of an electricity networks enterprise in Tashkent had been detained with a bribe.
