The deputy mayor of Chirchik, Tashkent region, was apprehended while accepting a bribe of $1 million. This incident was reported by the State Security Service as part of ongoing anti-corruption efforts.
During a rapid operation conducted in collaboration with the General Prosecutor’s Office, it was revealed that the deputy mayor allegedly exploited his position to facilitate a project involving a cluster-type shopping complex, with an investment of $40 million. In exchange for securing a 20-hectare plot of city reserve land and formalizing its ownership for 49 years, he demanded $2 million, receiving $1 million in advance through his driver.
A criminal case has been initiated against the deputy mayor under Article 210, Paragraph 3, Clause "a" (Bribery) of the Criminal Code, and a prison sentence has been imposed as a preventive measure. The investigation is currently ongoing.
This incident follows recent anti-corruption actions in Kashkadarya, Navoi, Andijan, and Syrdarya, where multiple district deputy governors and assistants were also apprehended for bribery.
