In May of this year, the activities of a secret cell belonging to a jihadist religious extremist movement were uncovered in Andijan. This was reported by the Andijan Regional Department of Internal Affairs.

According to the report, the leader of the group, U.A., born in 1981 and a resident of Andijan, gathered 12 individuals around him to form a clandestine community. The group held meetings in various teahouses throughout the city and allegedly planned to join the international terrorist organization “Jamaat Tawhid wal-Jihad” in Syria. They also collected financial contributions under the guise of "Baytulmal" and distributed the funds among their supporters.

During searches of the homes of group members, authorities seized various pieces of religious extremist literature and other material evidence.

A criminal case has been initiated under relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and investigative actions are currently underway.

It is worth noting that earlier, during an operation in the Fergana region, a covert cell of the religious extremist organization "Hizb ut-Tahrir" was also uncovered.
