A new urban area, New Jizzakh City, will be built on a 40-hectare vacant land plot located between Jizzakh city and Sharof Rashidov district. This is stated in the presidential decree titled “On Additional Measures to Accelerate the Socio-Economic Development of Jizzakh Region in 2026–2027,” adopted on January 30 this year.

According to the decree, a number of key objectives have been set to ensure the sustainable socio-economic development of Jizzakh region in 2026–2027. These include achieving an average annual growth of 8.5 percent in gross regional product, increasing industrial output by 7.8 percent, expanding market services by 13.2 percent, and boosting agricultural production by 4.6 percent.

The document also outlines plans to reduce the unemployment rate to 3 percent and the poverty rate to 2.8 percent by 2026. It is planned to turn Jizzakh city, as well as Sharof Rashidov, Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Dustlik, Zomin, and Zafarobod districts, into areas free from poverty and unemployment.

In addition, the decree provides for the renewal of 5,000 hectares of old orchards and vineyards across 57 mahallas specializing in horticulture in Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Zomin, Forish, and other districts.

Five entrepreneurship centers will be established in Sharof Rashidov, Dustlik, Gallaorol, Arnasay, and Zafarobod districts. These centers are expected to cover the activities of 40 mahallas in total.

As part of the New Jizzakh City project, it is planned to develop the 40-hectare site between Jizzakh city and Sharof Rashidov district by constructing 50 multi-storey residential buildings comprising 1,200 housing units.

It is worth noting that earlier reports stated that Samarkand city would be expanded and that Samarkand district would be abolished as a separate administrative-territorial unit.
