Earlier, reports circulated claiming that the personal data of 15 million Uzbek citizens had been leaked and posted on the Dark Web. It has now been clarified that the data of not 15 million but about 60,000 Uzbek citizens was exposed. This was announced on February 12 by Digital Technologies Minister Sherzod Shermatov at a press conference attended by media and members of the public.
According to the minister, the earlier reports were inaccurate. Preliminary findings by the relevant authorities showed that the data of approximately 60,000 citizens had been leaked, not 15 million.
“Personal data leakage does not mean that a citizen’s personal account has been hacked. In most cases, this may involve obtaining information such as a person’s full name, date of birth, address, or phone number. Even if fraudsters possess such data, they cannot carry out actions on behalf of a citizen without their direct participation. Therefore, they often attempt further attacks to obtain additional data,” Sherzod Shermatov said.
It was noted that between January 27 and 30 this year, cyberattacks targeted the information systems of three government agencies. оперативные меры were taken and the situation was brought under control. Afterward, the ministry updated the passwords of OneID users and strengthened security measures.
According to the ministry, more than 7 million cyber threats were neutralized in 2024, while in 2025 the figure exceeded 107 million.
