Mirziyoyev receives IMF Managing Director in New York

On September 22, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, in New York. The meeting was reported by the presidential press service.
The discussions focused on urgent issues of expanding cooperation with this influential global institution. Kristalina Georgieva praised the reforms underway in Uzbekistan and reaffirmed her strong support for the continuation of irreversible reforms.
“It was noted with satisfaction that effective cooperation with the Fund is taking place in areas such as macroeconomic policy and improvements in budget and tax administration. Our specialists regularly undergo advanced training programs at IMF centers. This year, the stability of our country’s financial sector was jointly assessed, and a ‘road map’ was adopted,” the report stated.
During the meeting, agreements were reached to continue the IMF’s expert support in developing monetary and fiscal policy, transforming the statistical system, and expanding training programs for employees of economic agencies.
It is worth noting that President Mirziyoyev is currently in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is scheduled to deliver a speech from the UN rostrum tomorrow, September 23.
