Two individuals were detained in Jizzakh region’s Zafarobod district for attempting to extort money from an officer of the Internal Affairs Department. The regional police department reported the incident.
According to the report, an officer of the Jizzakh Regional Department of Internal Affairs had posted a message in a neighborhood Telegram group requesting a taxi to bring his family members home from relatives’ house in Zafarobod district. In response, a resident of the “Pistalikent” neighborhood, born in 2007 and engaged in passenger transport, conspired with his 1999-born neighbor, who is currently serving a probationary sentence under the supervision of the district’s Probation Group, to extort money from the officer. During their communication, they exchanged insults with the officer.
During the conversation, the two men threatened to file complaints until the officer was dismissed from his job and demanded 15 million soums in exchange for not sending an audio recording they possessed to the regional Internal Affairs leadership. They also demanded that the officer sign a statement saying he had no claims regarding their previous complaint. The parties eventually agreed on 12 million soums, but the threats continued as the men demanded more money.
Following a report filed with the regional police department, an operational operation was carried out, during which both men were detained while receiving the demanded sum.
The investigation revealed that on October 6 and 8 this year, the same individuals had called the 102 hotline, alleging that the officer had insulted them. However, when summoned by responsible officials to provide explanations about the situation, they failed to appear.
The district prosecutor’s office has launched a criminal case against the two individuals, aged 18 and 26.
Earlier, it was reported that in Andijan region, a person who attempted to bribe a police officer was also detained.
