A tragic incident occurred in the “Oktom” neighborhood of Gallaorol district

A tragic incident occurred in the "Oktom" neighborhood of Gallaorol district, Jizzakh region, resulting in the loss of two schoolchildren's lives in a traffic accident. The Department of Traffic Safety of the regional DIA reported this heartbreaking event.

The accident took place on April 15 at 12:40 PM. A 32-year-old driver from Bakhmal district lost control of his Gentra car due to excessive speed while navigating the wet asphalt road. Regrettably, he collided with students from the 5th and 7th grades who were walking towards the school from the opposite direction.

"I was driving at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. I lost control of the vehicle due to the rainy conditions on the road surface. My car spun out, and despite my efforts, I couldn't regain control of the steering wheel. That's when the tragic collision with the children occurred," the driver recounted.

Tragically, the children succumbed to their injuries from the accident. Additionally, the vehicle struck livestock tied up at the roadside, resulting in further casualties.

Following this devastating incident, a criminal case was initiated under Article 266, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the driver was remanded in custody as a preventive measure pursuant to Article 221 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

It was revealed that the driver had committed traffic violations on 11 occasions since December 2023.
