The criminal code is being expanded with new responsibilities

Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been amended to include penalties for family (domestic) violence against children. This update was reported by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

The Committee of Democratic Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations, and Citizens' Self-Governing Bodies of the Legislative Chamber initially reviewed a draft law proposing amendments and additions to various legal documents in the Republic of Uzbekistan to enhance protection against family (domestic) violence.

The draft law suggests revisions and additions to specific articles of the Criminal, Criminal-Procedural, and Administrative Liability Codes. Specifically, Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code concerning family (domestic) violence now includes penalties for committing violence against a child.

"During the meeting, committee members agreed to review the draft law at the political parties' faction meetings," the report stated.
