If the issue of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, which is on the agenda today, is postponed, there is a possibility of bloodshed for just 1 hectare of land, never mind 19 thousand hectares.  Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov spoke about this in his address to the parliament today, 17 November.

He called on the deputies to support the agreement on the state border with Uzbekistan.

The president assured that the situation around the "Kampirabad" reservoir should not cause concern.

"I would like to appeal to those who are worried that the lands under the "Kampirabad" reservoir will be transferred to the side of Uzbekistan.  As Tashiyev (head of the State Committee for National Security of Kamchibek) noted in the report, 4,127 hectares of land under the reservoir was exchanged with the Uzbek side in 1965", Japarov said.

Japarov noted that even if the reservoir runs out of water, it will be possible to exchange these lands.

"We can replace these lands underwater even in a year, 10 or 100 years, but before that, we have to use them ourselves.  It is necessary to conclude today's agreement and put an end to border issues.  The issue of borders with a length of 1,500 km is being resolved not only in Ozgan, but throughout the entire republic," says Japarov.

According to Japarov, if the border issue is not resolved now, it will be difficult to reach such a favorable agreement in the future.

"The population of our neighbors is increasing every year, and the land area is getting smaller.  If we postpone the question, there is a possibility of bloodshed for 1 hectare of land, not 19,000 hectares.  How many people have died because of the border problem in the last 30 years?  We do not give land, on the contrary, we return the given land," says Japarov.

Let us remind you that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov participated in a meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan that followed on 14 November of this year, and for the first time, he discussed how the "Kampirabad" reservoir was introduced to Uzbekistan and clarified how it was going.

For information, the "Kampirabad" reservoir is a hydrotechnical facility located in the Kara Darya basin, which originates from 5 tributaries of the Tien-Shan Mountain range.  This reservoir, designed in 1962 and completed in 1968-1982, has a total area of 55 sq km and a water capacity of 1 billion 950 m3.  There has been a dispute between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan for many years concerning this issue.
