It has been revealed how much an investigative judge in the Yangiarik district of the Khorezm region demanded from a citizen in exchange for an acquittal. Earlier reports stated that the judge was detained for accepting a bribe. According to the State Security Service, he had sought \$15,000 from the individual through intermediaries.
The investigative judge of the Yangiarik District Court for Criminal Cases allegedly used his colleagues as intermediaries to resolve a criminal case in favor of a resident of Urgench city, who was facing charges under Article 210 of the Criminal Code (bribery). In return for issuing an acquittal, the judge demanded $15,000.
According to the report, the judge received $2,000 in cash and an additional 24 million soums via a bank card. However, after failing to fulfill his promise, he was detained by officers of the State Security Service, the Supreme Court, and the Prosecutor General’s Office while returning the advance payments.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has now opened a criminal case against the judge under Article 168 (fraud) and Article 211 (bribery) of the Criminal Code. An investigation is currently underway.
It is worth noting that a similar incident occurred earlier, when an investigator from the Urgench City Prosecutor’s Office was detained after first accepting and then attempting to return a bribe.
