11952A St. Petersburg Quarter will be established in the New Tashkent District, which is currently under construction in Tashkent. The announcement was made by the press service of the Russian Trade Mission in Uzbekistan.
According to the report, a memorandum has been signed to build the St. Petersburg Quarter, with the architectural design to be developed by specialists from St. Petersburg. This initiative aims to incorporate the city's unique style into the district's urban landscape.
Construction of the first residential and infrastructure facilities in New Tashkent began in April this year. The main facilities of the district are expected to be completed by 2045. The New Tashkent District spans 20,000 hectares, forming a key part of Uzbekistan's ambitious large-scale urban development project.
In the future, all government agencies are expected to be relocated to New Tashkent. Project developers believe this move will significantly ease traffic congestion in the older parts of Tashkent.
It is worth recalling that during a meeting of Russian and Uzbek state officials on May 26-27 this year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced plans to name one of the streets in New Tashkent after St. Petersburg, Russia’s cultural capital.
The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, welcomed the decision, calling it a great honor for St. Petersburg and a symbol of the strong friendship between the two cities.
