The ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel will inevitably impact not only the Middle East but also Central Asia, said President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a videoconference on June 16. The meeting focused on assessing the effectiveness of current reforms, monitoring progress across the regions, and addressing issues concerning the population.
During the discussion, it was noted that over the past five months, Uzbekistan’s industrial output has grown by 6.4%, exports by 18%, and foreign investment by 46%. More than 2,500 new facilities worth \$3 billion have been launched, and 2.4 million citizens have gained income-generating opportunities.
However, the president stressed that the resurgence of conflict in the Middle East could pose serious challenges for the broader region.
“The emergence of another hotspot of tension in the world will inevitably affect not only the Middle East but also Central Asia. If the escalation continues, trade relations and logistics routes—already in the process of recovery after the pandemic—will become even more complicated,” Mirziyoyev warned.
He emphasized the urgent need for peace, justice, and respect for human dignity, adding:
“Every regional governor and minister must be able to foresee risks and opportunities in advance and act proactively—without waiting for orders. Taking initiative is essential.”
Mirziyoyev concluded by urging officials to prioritize open communication with citizens and businesses, and to swiftly address the issues raised by the public.
