Oybek Orifbekovich Usmanov has been appointed as the new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Afghanistan, as reported by the "Dunyo" news agency.
Before this appointment, he served as the ambassador to Pakistan from 2020 to 2024.
For information, Oybek Usmanov was born on September 24, 1962, in Tashkent. He graduated in 1985 from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and Philology at Tashkent State University (now the National University of Uzbekistan). He is proficient in English, Dori, and Pashto. Since 1998, he has worked within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, holding various positions in the central apparatus and Uzbekistan's diplomatic missions abroad. From 2001 to 2006, he served as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Israel and as a representative to the Palestinian Authority. He was the ambassador to Pakistan from 2006 to 2011 and then worked as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2020.
Usmanov replaces Yodgorkhuja Shodmonov, who served as ambassador in Kabul from 2012 to 2024.
It is worth noting that Yodgorkhuja Shodmonov officially announced the end of his mission in Afghanistan during a meeting with Abdul Salom Hanafi, the Deputy Prime Minister of the "Taliban" interim government for administrative issues.
