On the occasion of the end of his diplomatic mission, Uzbek Ambassador Otabek Akbarov met with Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Chirielli, in Rome. This was reported by the "Dunyo" news agency.

Edmondo Chirielli positively evaluated the five-year activity of the head of the diplomatic mission and expressed gratitude for his efforts to raise bilateral relations to a new level, giving them a multifaceted and stable tone on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Italy on June 8-9, the importance of adopting a joint declaration on the establishment of strategic partnership relations between the two countries was emphasized. Two honorary consulates of Uzbekistan have been established in Florence and Milan, and there are plans to open honorary consulates in other regions of Italy.

At the moment, the package of projects implemented and developed with Italy exceeds 9 billion euros. In the following years, direct relations between the regions of Uzbekistan and Italian regions, particularly Lombardy, Tuscany, Veneto, Umbria, Campania, Marche, Abrusso, and Emilia-Romagna, became active.

It should be noted that Otabek Akbarov, who was appointed ambassador to Italy in August 2018, is simultaneously the ambassador of Uzbekistan to Greece and the Republic's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the World Food Program (WFP) as a permanent representative.
