Authorities have warned the public about fundraising campaigns on social media in which activists collect money to repatriate the bodies of Uzbek citizens who died while abroad. The Migration Agency issued an official warning regarding the situation.
According to the agency, there have been increasing cases in which individuals exploit people’s emotions and engage in fraud by using outdated or false information.
“If you come across such messages, do not transfer any money. The only legal and reliable option is to contact the Migration Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” the statement said.
The agency emphasized that if an Uzbek citizen dies abroad, the repatriation of the body is covered by the Migration Fund and does not require private fundraising.
