Uzbek girl becomes world champion chess player

In the Greek city of Rhodes, the FIDE 2022 World Junior Championship of the Rapid and Blitz types of chess has finished.

Umida Omonova from Uzbekistan won the gold medal in the category of Rapid.  She also took first place in the Blitz, collecting 8.5 points out of 9 chances.

To clarify, in Greece, Umida Omonova has become the champion in the «Girls up to 16 years old» group in two categories: Rapid and Blitz.

In the Blitz category, Humoyun Begmuratov took second place with 7 points out of 9 chances, and in his group “Open 12” he won the silver medal in both types: Rapid and Blitz.

Moreover, in the Blitz category, another Uzbekistan representative, Almas Rakhmatullayev, took 4th place in the “Open 16” group.  

It should be recalled that on 28 December last year, Uzbek chess player Nodirbek Abdusattov became the youngest world champion in the Rapid type of chess at the World Championship held in Warsaw, Poland.

For reference, the 17-year-old chess player was awarded the state prize “Brave Boy”, a two-room apartment in Tashkent and 250 million som.
