19532Uzbek coach Akmal Hasanov, who assisted a Kyrgyz boxer at the Paris Olympics, was awarded the international gold medal named after Chingiz Aytmatov. The award was presented by the Kyrgyz Embassy in Uzbekistan.
"We, coaches, help all athletes to the best of our ability. I am glad that I was able to assist Munarbek. I am grateful to everyone. Munarbek's wedding will be held soon. If I am fortunate, I will definitely attend," said Hasanov.
Munarbek, the first silver medalist in the history of Kyrgyz boxing, announced that he would soon get married. Before the Olympics, Seyitbek proposed to his beloved and promised to hold the wedding after the competition. Videos announcing the wedding, which will take place on August 24, have already circulated on social media.
The 2024 Summer Olympic Games, held in France from July 26 to August 11, have concluded. A total of 329 medals were contested in 32 sports. 10,500 athletes from 206 Olympic national teams, as well as individual athletes with neutral status, participated in the games.
In the boxing matches of the Games, on the night of August 4, Kyrgyz boxer Munarbek Seyitbek competed in a quarter-final match against American Harvey Jahmal and advanced to the semi-finals. Due to accreditation issues, Munarbek's trainer, Beganas Sultanbaev, was unable to accompany him to Paris.
During the match, Akmal Hasanov, a coach from Uzbekistan, assisted Munarbek. Hasanov, who was part of the Uzbek delegation, provided guidance and encouragement during the fight, even sprinkling water on Munarbek’s face during a break. This support was warmly received by social media users.
Akmal Hasanov explained to journalists that he was moved to tears by Munarbek's victory.
Kyrgyz internet users praised the Uzbek coach for demonstrating the unity of Central Asia through his actions.
Munarbek Seyitbek reached the semi-finals in his match, eventually facing Bulgarian Javier Ibanez Diaz on August 9. In the final, he competed against Uzbek boxer Abdumalik Khalokov. Although he lost to Khalokov, Seyitbek was awarded the Olympic silver medal.
