625Since the beginning of 2024, 74 gas-related accidents have been recorded in Uzbekistan, resulting in 82 fatalities and 80 injuries, according to Abdusattor Kayumov, head of the department at "Hududgaztaminot" JSC.
These numbers show a slight decrease compared to 2023, which saw 86 incidents, 88 deaths, and 119 injuries during the same period.
"The main causes of these incidents include carbon monoxide poisoning due to faulty ventilation systems or improperly installed hoods, as well as the use of non-standard or faulty gas equipment that does not meet safety standards. A lack of public awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide also contributes to these tragedies. In some cases, entire families have died from carbon monoxide poisoning," Kayumov states.
The head of "Hududgaztaminot" urged citizens to strictly adhere to gas safety rules to prevent further accidents:
- Avoid repairing, replacing, or moving gas equipment without proper knowledge or expertise.
- Refrain from using gas burners or equipment that lack safety automation or are in disrepair.
- Regularly check and maintain ventilation systems and hoods.
- Ensure proper airflow in rooms where gas appliances are in use.
- Do not use gas stoves to heat rooms or sleep in spaces with continuously burning gas appliances.
- In case of a gas smell: do not switch on electrical devices, open windows, and doors to ventilate the area, shut off the gas supply, and contact the gas company immediately.
- Never use open flames to detect gas leaks.
Kayumov called on the public to report any gas-related issues by contacting the 1104 hotline or using the "Safe Gas" Telegram group.
