In 2023, Uzbekistan witnessed 10,204 fire incidents, resulting in 251 injuries and 79 fatalities. This information was disclosed during the Defense and Security Committee meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on January 31.

During the session, they discussed the findings of a study on compliance with legislation regarding carbon monoxide poisoning prevention. Additionally, amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility were addressed to enhance fire prevention effectiveness in Uzbekistan.

Despite ongoing efforts in fire prevention, significant fire-related incidents continue to impact both the public and economic entities.

In 2023, there were 10,204 fire incidents, causing injuries to 251 citizens, 79 of whom lost their lives. The total damage amounted to 270.4 billion soums for individuals and legal entities.

Business entities alone experienced 797 fires in 2023.

The government commission investigating major fires in different regions highlighted that current state fire control bodies lack sufficient authority to enact effective prevention measures. As a response, the Ministry of Emergency Situations proposed a law, currently under discussion in parliament, to address this issue.

The proposed law introduces administrative responsibility in the Code of Administrative Responsibility for violations of fire safety regulations in forests leading to fires, as well as negligence leading to harm to individuals or their health due to fire safety violations. Amendments aim to exempt individuals from liability in cases where fires are unrelated to property damage.

Public representatives, specialists, experts, and prosecutor's office officials actively contributed suggestions and opinions during the discussion, leading to the committee's decision at the meeting's conclusion.
