Over the first 10 months of 2024, 126 individuals were sentenced to imprisonment for committing domestic violence in Uzbekistan, as reported by Supreme Court press secretary Aziz Obidov.

Key statistics include: Administrative accountability: 15,427 people faced administrative penalties under Article 59-2 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility (Domestic Violence). Of these: 9,210 were fined, and 6,217 received administrative detention.

Criminal accountability: 399 people were convicted under Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code (Domestic Violence), 126 were sentenced to imprisonment, 255 received non-custodial sentences, and 18 were given suspended sentences.

The World Health Organization (WHO) notes that one in three women globally experiences physical violence by a partner, with intimate partners responsible for 38% of femicides.

From 2023 to May 2024, 894 cases of domestic violence-related crimes were recorded in Uzbekistan. Of these: 55.6% (506 cases) were dismissed due to reconciliation between parties, and 44.4% (388 cases) resulted in court sentences.

Previously, criminal liability for domestic violence in Uzbekistan applied only to acts against spouses or cohabiting individuals. Recent legal updates now include provisions for domestic violence committed against children by close relatives, strengthening protections for minors.
