Former minister in Uzbekistan was imprisoned for 7 years

37593A former official, who served as the Minister of Housing and Communal Economy from 2017 to 2021 and as the Mayor of Nurafshan from 2021 to 2023, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison. This information was reported by QALAMPIR.UZ.
According to documents obtained by QALAMPIR.UZ, the case was heard in the Shaykhontohur District Court on March 13 of this year. The former official was charged under articles "a" and "v" of Article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which deals with embezzlement and misappropriation. He was found guilty and sentenced to 7 years in prison, with an additional 3-year ban on holding any official or financially responsible positions. The sentence is to be served in a general-regime colony.
On July 30, the Tashkent City Court reviewed the case on appeal and upheld the original verdict.
