In six months, 550 billion soums worth of gas and electricity were stolen in Uzbekistan

2792In Uzbekistan, over 550 billion soums worth of gas and electricity were stolen within a six-month period. This information was shared by Hasan Toshkhojayev, head of the Ministry of Energy's information service, during a briefing at the Information and Mass Communications Agency.
Authorities detected 38,800 instances of illegal activity during 40,800 inspections carried out between January 1 and June 15, 2024. These inspections were conducted in collaboration with "Ozenergoinspeksia" under the Ministry of Energy and law enforcement agencies.
Out of these illegal activities, 13,500 cases involved the unauthorized use of natural gas, while 25,300 cases involved the illegal use of electricity.
Reports indicate that the highest number of illegal energy use cases were found in the Navoi, Syrdarya, and Tashkent regions.
The report stated, “Law enforcement agencies registered 17,200 administrative and 715 criminal cases related to energy resource violations, and the offenders have been appropriately penalized.”
