The Research Institute of Criminology was established in Uzbekistan. On January 15, a Presidential Decree was issued, titled "On measures to elevate the quality of scientific research in the field of ensuring public safety and combating crime to a new level."
This institute is a republic scientific-research institution, specializing in providing scientific and expert support for criminological activities. It operates within the organizational structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and holds the status of a legal entity. The head of the institute is appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The Institute, among other functions:
- Conducts in-depth research on the criminogenic situation in the republic, systematically analyzing and forecasting crime trends.
- Methodically assists inquiry and preliminary investigation bodies in identifying factors of crimes causing public concern, developing measures to address them.
- Prepares highly qualified scientific personnel through independent research in criminology.
The Institute carries out its tasks independently, free from influence by any state bodies, public associations, or officials. Any attempt to interfere with its activities or alter information in research reports is strictly prohibited.
