Woman accused of human trafficking in Uzbekistan caught in Turkey

A woman wanted in Uzbekistan on suspicion of human trafficking has been arrested in Turkey. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan.

“A large-scale operational search was conducted in cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey in Istanbul. As a result of this collaboration, a suspect wanted for committing a crime in Uzbekistan was apprehended,” the statement said.

According to the information, I.U., born in 1981, was wanted by the Namangan regional Department of Internal Affairs under Part 3 of Article 135 (human trafficking) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. Based on urgent intelligence, it was determined that she had been hiding in Istanbul, Turkey.

She was arrested on June 17 in Istanbul and subsequently extradited to Uzbekistan following established legal procedures.

It should be recalled that earlier, under the supervision of the Interpol National Central Bureau in Uzbekistan, another Uzbek citizen wanted through Interpol channels for human trafficking and hiding in Turkey for an extended period was extradited from Istanbul to Tashkent.
