Breakdown of foreign student population in Uzbekistan revealed

As of the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, 12,500 foreign students are enrolled in higher education institutions across Uzbekistan, according to the National Statistics Committee.

The majority come from India, which accounts for 6,502 students — more than half of all international students in the country. Other leading countries of origin include:

- Turkmenistan – 1,430 students
- Pakistan – 1,250
- Russia – 732
- Kazakhstan – 639
- Kyrgyzstan – 369
- China – 325
- Tajikistan – 322
- South Korea – 197
- Afghanistan – 157
- Canada – 126
- Other countries – 431

Uzbekistan continues to attract students from neighboring and distant countries, reinforcing its role as a regional center for higher education.
