57980Unusually high temperatures are anticipated in Uzbekistan during July and early August 2024, as reported by the Scientific Research Institute of Hydrometeorology.
They recommend dividing the country into four zones for weather forecasting purposes: the western zone (comprising the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Navoi, and Bukhara regions), the central zone (Tashkent, Syrdarya, Samarkand, and Jizzakh regions), the southern zone (Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions), and the eastern zone (Fergana, Andijan, and Namangan regions).
The temperature in the western part of Uzbekistan and desert areas is expected to be 1-1.25 degrees Celsius higher than the long-term average this summer. In other regions, temperatures are forecasted to be slightly above the long-term averages (0.75-1 degrees Celsius). Abnormal heat is expected in July and early August, with some days experiencing significantly higher temperatures. The eastern zone, including the Fergana Valley, the mountainous areas of Tashkent, and the Surkhandarya region, is predicted to have temperatures close to long-term climatic norms throughout the summer.
Some precipitation is expected in early and late June, especially in the plains. However, the rest of the summer is likely to be dry in these areas. Short-term rainfall might occur in mountainous and sub-mountainous regions. Overall, precipitation levels are forecast to be close to long-term averages (90-110 percent) across most of the region. Only the southern mountain areas and the mountainous regions of Fergana are expected to see above-average precipitation (110-130 percent).
Global climate models predict significant positive temperature and precipitation anomalies in southern Central Asia (Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions) for the summer of 2024. This indicates a likelihood of heavy downpours and flash floods in the southern regions. Additionally, the Fergana Valley's mountainous and sub-mountainous regions may face flooding due to short-term seasonal rainfall.
Due to the limited reliability of high-accuracy weather prediction methods for the upcoming season and months, forecast accuracy is reported to be 83-88 percent for temperature and 65-70 percent for precipitation.
Previously, the weather conditions in Uzbekistan for Eid al-Adha were also reported.
