Uzbekistan is expected to transition to a 12-year school education system. This initiative was approved by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on September 8, following a presentation on reforms in the education sector. Deputy Minister of Preschool and School Education Sardor Rajabov announced the decision in an interview with the ’’Uzbekistan 24’’ TV channel.

According to him, Uzbekistan will introduce a 12-year school education system by integrating preschool preparation into general school education. The aim is to improve the quality of education and align the national system with international standards.

’’When applying to foreign universities, our students are currently required to study for one year in a foundation program, which results in them losing a year. If we introduce 12 years of schooling into legislation, our students will no longer have to take foundation courses and will be able to enter bachelor’s programs directly’’, Rajabov said.
