On December 21, Uzbekistan’s Presidential Representative on World Trade Organization (WTO) affairs, Azizbek Urinov, together with Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, signed a protocol concluding bilateral market access negotiations as part of Uzbekistan’s accession process to the WTO. Urinov announced this on his social media pages.
According to him, the negotiations took place within the framework of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s working visit to St. Petersburg.
“The negotiations were continuous, yet substantive and constructive, and concluded today with a positive outcome. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the Russian Federation for its active participation in Uzbekistan’s accession process, to Minister Maxim Reshetnikov for his leadership, to Ms. Mayorova for her significant contribution, to Ambassador Platonov for his support, and to the Russian negotiating team for their valuable cooperation,” Urinov wrote.
The presidential representative also noted that full attention is currently being given to advancing multilateral negotiations, completing the necessary legislative updates, and successfully finalizing the accession process next year.
It should be recalled that on December 11 this year, a protocol on the conclusion of bilateral negotiations on market access within the framework of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO was signed at the Kuksaroy residence in Tashkent, in the presence of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Paraguay Santiago Peña.
In addition, last month Uzbekistan concluded WTO accession negotiations with two more countries — Canada and Panama. Azizbek Urinov previously stated that negotiations with Russia were nearly complete, with only talks with Taiwan remaining.
