Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan have been ranked among countries with a low cost of living, according to a global ranking compiled by Numbeo.
The ranking includes a total of 155 countries. New York was selected as the baseline for comparison, with its price level set at 100. The lower the index, the cheaper it is considered to live in a given country. The calculations take into account housing rent, utility costs, food prices, restaurant expenses, as well as purchasing power.
Among Central Asian countries, the rankings are as follows:
- Kazakhstan ranked 128th with an index of 29.8;
- Tajikistan ranked 136th with an index of 27.9;
- Uzbekistan ranked 138th with an index of 27.3, while Kyrgyzstan placed 140th with the same index of 27.3.
Kazakhstan recorded the highest purchasing power in the region, while Tajikistan posted the lowest figure.
It is worth noting that a low cost of living does not always indicate a high standard of living. Differences in purchasing power reflect the gap between price levels and the real incomes of the population.
