On April 15, 2025, Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and Tajikistan's Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda co-chaired the latest meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The meeting took place in the historic city of Khiva, as reported by the government portal.

During the meeting, the participants emphasized the progress of Uzbekistan-Tajikistan relations, which have reached a new stage of cooperation in recent years. The alliance between the two nations continues to strengthen in practical terms, thanks in particular to the trusted relations and political will demonstrated by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, transportation, energy, industry, agriculture, and other key sectors. Special attention was given to the implementation of promising projects aimed at fostering deeper collaboration.

It was noted that the volume of mutual trade between the two countries has doubled over the past five years, and the number of joint enterprises has exceeded 300. While these indicators continue to grow, they still do not fully reflect the potential of both nations, leaving many untapped opportunities.

In addition, the two presidents have tasked their governments with increasing mutual trade volumes to $2 billion by 2030. The meeting highlighted the need to deepen industrial cooperation, implement joint transport and communication projects, continue mutually beneficial collaboration on water resources and energy, ensure food security and agricultural development, and actively strengthen ties between regional territories.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol marking the 12th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. Following the official proceedings, the prime ministers visited Khiva’s Ichan-Qala, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized as an “Open-Air Museum.” The historically preserved city left a lasting impression on the Tajik delegation.
