Uzbekistan has reached an agreement with Pakistan to jointly develop an international transport corridor, the Ministry of Transport reported.

According to the ministry, on February 4 an Uzbek delegation led by First Deputy Minister of Transport Mamanbiy Omarov held talks with Mazhar Ali Shah, Deputy Minister of Pakistan Railways.

The meeting focused on key initiatives aimed at strengthening regional transport connectivity, increasing cargo volumes, and developing new international transport routes.

In particular, the sides reached an agreement on the implementation of the Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan railway project. The parties agreed to begin research work in the near future to develop the project’s feasibility study.

In addition, discussions were held with Pakistan’s Deputy Minister for Communications, Ali Shah Masud, on the creation of a new Pakistan–China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan international transport corridor. Following the talks, the parties agreed to carry out pilot cargo shipments along this route in February this year.

Earlier, it was reported that President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev would pay a state visit to Pakistan on February 5–6 at the invitation of Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif.
