Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan cooperate in defense sector

2084Uzbekistan has initiated defense cooperation with Turkmenistan. On September 24, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ratified the defense cooperation agreement between the Ministries of Defense of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The agreement was signed on October 4, 2023, in Ashgabat, and on October 30, 2023, in Tashkent.
As of January 1, 2024, Uzbekistan ranks 65th globally out of 145 countries in terms of defense capability and 96th in defense spending, with a budget of approximately $796 million.
Turkmenistan ranks 83rd, allocating about $859 million to its defense sector, placing it 94th globally.
Earlier this year, from April 1 to 7, a meeting of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan Joint Demarcation Commission was held in Nukus. Discussions included further steps in demarcating the state border and preparing for the joint meeting of the intergovernmental commission.
