On April 18, Uzbekistan and Rwanda signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations in Antalya, Antalya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

According to the ministry, Rwanda has become the 167th country to establish diplomatic ties with Uzbekistan. The communiqué was signed by Bakhtiyor Saidov and Olivier Nduhungirehe, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The two sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on establishing a mechanism for political consultations between their foreign ministries.

“The signing of these documents undoubtedly marks another important step in expanding Uzbekistan’s relations with African countries,” the statement said.

For reference, Rwanda is a small but rapidly developing country in East Africa. Its capital, Kigali, is considered one of the cleanest and most orderly cities on the continent. The country is largely mountainous and hilly, earning it the nickname “the land of a thousand hills.” It has a population of around 13 million, with major ethnic groups including Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa. Its official languages are Kinyarwanda, English, and French.

Earlier, a Joint Communiqué on establishing diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Lesotho was signed in New York City.
