Uzbekistan has agreed to expand its cooperation with the French uranium company, Orano. This announcement was made by the President's press service.
The statement mentions that an important area of collaboration is the in-depth processing of strategic raw materials and the production of industrial products using advanced technologies. It further highlights plans to enhance cooperation with Orano in this specific domain.
The press service also noted that President Mirziyoyev had a meeting with Claude Imovin, the head of Orano, during a business forum. The meeting expressed support for initiatives to expand collaboration in geological exploration and uranium mining.
Additionally, both parties expressed their willingness to develop strategic cooperation in the field of "green" energy. Projects with companies like EDF, Voltalia, and Total Energies have already commenced in this sector.
The press service highlighted the importance of efficiently utilizing water resources and creating modern infrastructure. Large-scale efforts are currently underway to modernize the water supply systems and heat networks in the country, with the involvement of SUEZ, Eiffage, and Veolia.
It is worth noting that according to the World Nuclear Association, Uzbekistan ranks among the top five countries in terms of uranium mining.
A reminder that French President Emmanuel Macron visited Uzbekistan on November 1-2. During his visit, he engaged in one-on-one and expanded negotiations with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Prior to Macron's trip to Uzbekistan, Bloomberg newspaper reported that the French President's aim was to enhance the energy security of his country. Given the deteriorating relations with Niger, France has been advised to seek new partners to meet its uranium requirements.
