The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation has addressed reports concerning the alleged involvement of an Uzbek citizen in the killing of a Russian general. It announced that efforts are underway to verify the details about the suspect.

The embassy noted its attention to the information regarding the arrest of a "citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan" in connection with a terrorist attack in Moscow on December 17, 2024.

"The diplomatic mission is maintaining contact with law enforcement agencies in the host country and is working to clarify the information about the person suspected of this incident," the statement reads.

Earlier reports indicated that Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, was killed in an explosion in Moscow. A 29-year-old man, reportedly from Uzbekistan, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in Kirillov's death.

Russian news agency TASS reported that Russian security forces have contacted their Uzbek counterparts for information on the suspect. According to sources, Uzbekistan promptly provided details about Ahmad Kurbanov, the citizen arrested in Russia in connection with the incident.
