Yesterday, September 2, a video circulated on social media showing a man being assaulted near the Uzbek embassy in Moscow, allegedly by staff of the Uzbek diplomatic mission. The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow has issued a statement regarding the incident.
According to a report by the Telegram channel “Readovka,” a local resident was walking his dog when he noticed a car parked in a restricted area near the embassy.
“Yesterday, while walking my dog, I saw a car parked in the wrong place. There were Uzbek people in it, which I later learned after the incident. The car had a diplomatic license plate. When I protested, they threatened me and then beat me. They also broke my phone deliberately, as I was recording everything. After the incident, I called the police, who arrested them, and I filed a complaint. Embassy representatives also came to assist them,” the man said.
On September 3, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow responded to the reports, denying any involvement.
The embassy clarified that the vehicle and individuals shown in the photos circulating on social media are not connected to the Uzbek diplomatic mission. The diplomatic license plate in question belongs to a different country’s mission.
“We consider any attempts to hold the embassy responsible for this incident unfounded and unacceptable,” the statement said.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Russia urged the public and media not to spread unverified information.
