President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev called on the international community to unite its efforts to support the Afghan people’s aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous life, emphasizing the importance of preventing Afghanistan from becoming isolated. He stated this on September 23 in his speech at the 80th anniversary session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the head of state, Uzbekistan intends to implement major economic and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan.

Mirziyoyev also proposed the adoption of a separate UN resolution on the development of international transport and energy corridors passing through Afghanistan.

Touching on security issues, the president highlighted the effective work being done to implement the Global Counterterrorism Strategy in Central Asia. He proposed transforming the Regional Council on Rehabilitation and Reintegration, established in cooperation with the UN Office for Counter-Terrorism, into an International Center of Competence.

Uzbekistan, he added, is ready to create the necessary conditions for opening a regional office of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office in the country.

The president also pointed out that in today’s world, full of threats, the weakness of the global transport system has a negative impact on the stability of landlocked developing countries.

To address this, he proposed introducing a global mechanism called “Strengthening Transport Connectivity for Sustainable Development Goals” to enhance the security of international transit corridors and establish efficient logistics chains.

It is worth noting that during the same speech, Mirziyoyev stressed that the era of closed borders, unresolved disputes, and conflicts in Central Asia is a thing of the past. He also noted that in recent years, mutual trade, investment, and transport flows within the region have increased fivefold.
