Uzbekistan crowned world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling after 24 years

Uzbek athlete Aitzhan Khalmakhanov won a gold medal at the Greco-Roman World Championship in Croatia, the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan reported.
This marks the first gold medal for Uzbekistan in Greco-Roman wrestling at the World Championship in the past 24 years. The national team secured a total of one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals at the competition held in Zagreb.

– 63 kg: Aitzhan Khalmakhanov (Greco-Roman wrestling)

For reference, the first Uzbek athlete to win a Greco-Roman World Championship title was Dilshod Aripov, who claimed gold in the 58 kg weight category at the 2001 World Championships in Greece by defeating Armenia’s Karen Mnatsakanyan.
