A resident of Tashkent’s Yangihayot district has been identified for illegally storing medical supplies worth more than 1.1 billion soums at his home, the Customs Committee reported.
According to the report, an operation was conducted by officers of the “Tashkent-Aero” Anti-Smuggling Department in cooperation with representatives of the State Security Service and internal affairs bodies. During the operation, the suspect’s residence in Yangihayot district was inspected in accordance with established procedures and in the presence of witnesses, revealing 3,613 units of medical supplies across 38 categories that had been stored illegally.
The seized items included stents, catheters and other medical supplies used in complex surgical procedures. These items are considered vital for human life and fall into a high-risk category.

“Stents without guaranteed quality may fail to function properly inside blood vessels, potentially worsening a patient’s condition, causing incompatibility with the body, triggering allergic reactions, forming blood clots or even leading to a heart attack. Moreover, such medical products require specific conditions for transportation and storage, and their storage in an ordinary residence cannot be justified,” the Customs Committee said.
Earlier, a father and son in Tashkent had been detained for selling uncertified medicines worth 3 billion soums.
