22581The search for 13 Uzbeks continues against the backdrop of the tragic earthquake in Turkey. This was reported by the Consulate General in Istanbul.
It is noted that today, 7 February at 19:00 p.m. Tashkent time, 1 citizen of Uzbekistan died as a result of the natural disaster in Turkey. A search began for 15 Uzbeks, of which 2 of them have now been contacted. The search continues for the remaining 13 Uzbeks.
Furthermore, 17 Uzbeks (13 of them athletes) were helped to travel to Istanbul from the area where the earthquake occurred.
It is noted that representatives of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic of Uzbekistan mobilized in order to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake in Turkey in accordance with the order of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, began search and rescue operations in the village of Ovakent of the Hatay region. More than 10,000 ethnic Uzbeks live in this area.
Two strong earthquakes (magnitude 7.7 and 7.6), whose epicenter occurred in Kahramanmarash province in the southeast of Turkey, caused large-scale destruction in ten provinces of Turkey on 6 February. Serious damage was also recorded in Hatay region.
According to the latest data, 3,549 people were victims of the earthquake in Turkey, and 22,168 people were injured. More than 8,000 people were rescued from the ruins.
The devastating earthquake was also felt in neighboring countries, including Syria, Lebanon, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Greek Cyprus and Iraq.
According to the latest information, more than 1,600 people were killed in the Syrian provinces of Idlib, Aleppo, Hama, Latakia and Raqqa.
